Delivery truck, repurposed as a political sign, on the east edge of Fredericksburg, Texas.
For some time, I’ve been trying to kick off this blog, but always find an excuse to delay- I need more or better photographs, I need to do more research, etc. Well, here we go. Connie and I have been camping in Fredericksburg, Texas for the past four weeks. About two to three times a week, we drive 20 miles to the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historic Park to ride our bikes: its a pretty ranch, it is a modestly challenging ride, and there is almost no traffic. We’ve enjoyed riding there.
Along the way, we’ve driven back and forth past this old truck, just east of Fredericksburg along Hwy 290. The truck has seen better days, but is quite colorful. I’ve shown the photograph to a few friends and family members, without commentary. It seems to serve as sort of a political Rorschach test. Supporters of the former President see a simple statement of support. Those who did not support the former President see the state of repair of the truck as a commentary on his policies (I guess). I didn’t see anyone to ask about the truck and message, when I stopped to take this photo; however, there were a number of other old vehicles on the property, so it appears the truck was used simply because it was on hand.
Its a fun old truck, shown here in all its glory in the morning light, and it would make a great subject for an urban sketch artist such as Ian Fennelly.
